[ARCHIVED] City Manager Issues Temporary Relief of Business Sign Regulations

Local Businesses is provided greater flexibility for temporary signage during shutdown

The City Manager of the City of Marina has issued a memo to local businesses to help the hard-hit partners of the community during these unprecedented times.  The City Manager’s directive states, “Effective immediately, local regulations regarding signs will be relaxed during the Local Emergency declared by our City Council due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

During the temporary shutdown of businesses order by the Governor, the City will allow additional signs for businesses of up to 16 square feet to be attached to the wall of a business or building and up to 12 square feet for an A-frame or other free standing sign that is safely located as to not interfere with vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The relaxed standards are applicable to all non-residential zones.  Consistent with existing sign regulations, no off-site signs will be allowed.

The measure is temporary only and will be rescinded as the pandemic subsides and businesses are allowed to reopen.
