On January 22, 2025, the City Council will consider adopting draft policies and standards to help protect the City's shoreline from Coastal Hazards and Sea Level Rise.
The City of Marina is poised to make history with managed retreat and natural protective features as our preferred adaptation measures! The draft Hazards Implementation Plan (IP) and Land Use Plan (LUP) are available for public review and comment until the Council meeting on January 22nd. If the Council approves the drafts, they will be submitted to the California Coastal Commission (CCC) for certification. The CCC may certify our documents as submitted, but they will more likely seek to make modifications in order to create hazards policies and standards that are more consistent with statewide guidance. The City Council will have final authority to accept any modifications made by the CCC or not.
